This template can be used for typesetting open problems for the AGA workshop. Create a write-up of your open problem in the aga-yourname.tex file. Compiling the main tex-file will show you exactly how the end result will look in a booklet. The template by default shows a number of useful tools to typeset an open problem, such as figures, references to existing work, and clearly annotated definitions, theorems, lemmata, etc.

Two examples of extreme-event modeling.

Vibration control is crucially important in ensuring a smooth ride for vehicle passengers. This study sought to design a suspension system for a car such that its mode of vibration would be predominantly bouncing at lower speeds, and primarily pitching at higher speeds. Our study used analytical and numerical methods to choose appropriate springs and dampers for the front and rear suspension. After an initial miscalculation, we succeeded in arriving at appropriate shocks for the vehicle with the desired modes of vibration at the specified frequencies. We then assessed the maximum bouncing and pitching that the vehicle would experience under a specific set of conditions: travel at 40 km/hr over broken, rough terrain. Our testing showed moderate success in our suspension design. We successfully damped the force being transmitted to both the front and rear quarter car somewhat, while ensuring that the modes of vibration fell into the desired shapes at the desired frequency ranges.

Math336 Project

This is a copy of the LaTeX code for Project #1 in Math 2400 at Fitchburg State University. Students can use this to help with their write-up. This project was adapted from Adam Graham-Squire at High Point University. Students will use this to explore properties of hyperbolic trig functions within calculus.

Achter de ontdekking van de RSA-codes zit heel wat mooie wiskunde, voornamelijk uit de getaltheorie. De wiskundige die onbewust hebben bijgedragen tot de ontdekking van de RSA-codes zijn Eratosthenes, Euclides, Fermat, Euler, Gauss, Bezout en Bachet. De wiskundigen die de RSA-codes bewust hebben ontdekt zijn Rivest, Shamir en Adleman. In deze cursus laten we zien welke bijdrage al deze wiskundigen hebben geleverd aan de codetheorie. We leggen eveneens uit hoe het RSA-codes-mechanisme werkt en hoe deze codes worden gekraakt. De softwarepakketten die hiervoor gebruikt worden zijn Derive (voor het didactische aspect) en Sage (voor de rekenkracht en voor het programmatorisch aspect)
